Get to Know Pastor David Beard I am excited for the call to serve as your Interim Pastor at Faith Lutheran. I grew up in the church, baptized at Peace Lutheran, South Gate, Ca. in 1953. In my formative years, I was deeply engaged with my church, playing the piano for Sunday school, involved with the youth ministry, and served as a summer camp Counselor at El Camino Pines. I am a graduate of Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary. I have served as a Pastor for the past 38 years, ordained in 1979, having served eight congregations, two prior to my ordination, Christ Lutheran, Aptos, CA. and Resurrection Lutheran in Dublin, CA. as a Youth Director and Interim. My first ordained call was to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Santa Barbara, where I served for six years, the second call brought my family to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Long Beach, Ca. where I served for seven years, we then moved up to Northern California where we served Trinity Lutheran Church of Pleasanton. That ministry fulfilled a lifelong dream of building a sanctuary and more important an exciting and vibrant ministry of outreach and discipleship. From a worshipping body of 60 souls to record 450 Sunday worshippers. From a staff of 3 to 30. After 22 years of service in Pleasanton, I opened myself for another adventure of ministry as an Intentional Interim Pastor. In that capacity, I have served three congregations, King of Glory in Fountain Valley, King of Kings in Oceanside and most recently St. Andrew’s Lutheran in San Diego My wife, Sue and I were married in 1978 and raised two daughters, Sarah and Amy. Sarah, along with her husband Ben of eleven years, and our two grand boys, Cade and Weston live in Hayward, WI. Our second daughter Amy and her husband Chris of six years reside in Auburn, WA. Both daughters our graduates of Lutheran Colleges, Luther in Decorah, IW, and Pacific Lutheran University, WA. Sue and I are graduates of California Lutheran University were we first met and fell in love over 40 years ago. We maintain our primary home in Pleasanton, where Sue serves as a 7th Grade Core Teacher with the Livermore School District. We are also blessed on both sides of our family with parents who celebrated over 65+ years of marriage, with Sue’s mother living in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware and my parents living in Simi Valley, Ca. We have been blessed in wonderful ways with family and friends these many years.
