A Brief History of Faith Lutheran Church

Faith Lutheran Church was organized by Pastor Ray Kibler, Jr.,
who served as pastor until his retirement in 1986.
The congregation formalized its existence and built the present worship building and the office/classroom building just to the north of it in 1964.

Those buildings were in open country at the time and, as the community around it grew, Faith Lutheran Church became known as a local landmark. A tragic fire in the early 1970’s was limited to the church office but destroyed some records and many books. The congregation was not discouraged, however, and re-construction was swift.
Faith Lutheran Church sold some of its property to the north and west of the existing facilities, raised $22,000 in six months and received a grant from the American Lutheran Church to refinance and considerably reduce its debt in the late 1970’s.

The congregation voted to establish a children’s day care center in 1978 and opened it to the public July 16, 1979. A new building was built and then occupied in 1984 and a kindergarten added at the same time. The Faith Lutheran Church Pre-school and Kindergarten is one of the finest schools in the San Gabriel Valley.
Pastor David Berkedal was called to serve as the congregation’s pastor in 1986. The church became one of the fastest growing churches in its synod. Its outreach ministries include principle support for an active local emergency food pantry, use of its new building as a cold-wet weather shelter for the homeless for two winter weeks each year, and support of Rachel’s House to protect and train toward self-sufficiency homeless women and children, among many others.

A parish hall building with a brand new nursery and kitchen was built and then put to use in 1993.
Today, Faith Lutheran Church is a warm, growing church seeking new ways to meet people’s real needs in the name of Jesus Christ. Visitors often tell us that they feel an energetic, God-honoring spirit as soon as they walk in the door for worship.

We have a lot to celebrate in Jesus Christ! Come and share our joy!

Faith Lutheran Church is currently engaged in its Living Faith Appeal, a fund raising, church construction, and spiritual growth ministry to provide new physical facilities to help us accomplish our mission
